My work combines technology with nature. I start with an original digital photo or image and transform it through filtering, reflection, layering it with the same or other images, and then augment the color, texture, and pattern. I arrive at a digital expression from a perspective that is deeply personal and graphic in nature. The galleries below show the diversity in my work; from portraits and landscapes, to abstracts and photographic pieces. You can find even more in my Series Gallery tab. THANK YOU for taking a look at my art.
A little about me... I come from a traditional art background and discovered encaustic painting in college. I loved this ancient art form for the ability to layer and create depth on a two dimensional surface, and the ability to incorporate other elements into the canvas such as found objects, photography, and even imprinting the wax with texture. When I discovered digital art, it opened up a new world of possibilities to capture the otherworldly effects of encaustic in a medium that allowed me to push what I loved about encaustic to a new level. I can even incorporate photos of my old encaustics into my new work - providing a merger of my past and present. I lean towards the bold, unusual, and emotional - likely due to many years in the graphic design industry and a love for posters and image.
I consider myself an outsider, with experience from a long career in design-related industries, a love of gardening, dance, movies, the human condition and still hold the wonder of a child in so many ways creatively. I took a hiatus of 30+ years from creating personal art and now that I've rediscovered that passion, I felt as though I found my voice again. Welcome!
