I have always been fascinated by Morocco. It’s one place that, when I see photos of it, draws me in and has a haunting effect on me. It’s as though I’ve been there, but, and this is going to sound odd, not in the past… in the future.
The textures, the colors, the patterns, the arches, the courtyards and gardens, the elegant details, I have memories of them all, but in ruin, as if everyone who lived there had moved on a long time ago and I was visiting an old life. I recall the architecture having a magical quality, reminiscent of a fairy tale. I’m sure it was a dream, but it seems like more, so I decided to create spaces as I’ve recalled through my art.
I was supposed to travel to Morocco with my husband several years ago on a cruise, but they canceled that port for some reason. I do hope to get there one day and see if going there spurs anything. Until then, I’m going to hold this dream close and manifest it further in my experiments with hybrid art.
I plan to do a series of NFTs of what I am calling Abandoned Morocco, so stay tuned for more.
